Work
Library science taught me how to describe things. Data science taught me how to work with descriptions at scale. My work sits where the two meet: knowledge organization, taxonomy, and making information findable.
Taxonomy and metadata
- Controlled vocabularies and classification. I design term lists, hierarchies, and naming rules so the same thing always gets called the same name. That consistency is what lets search, filters, and reports work.
- Cataloging and collection development. I catalog new materials and manage an entire school library collection, from evaluation and acquisition through weeding.
- Standards alignment. I have aligned library and ELA lessons and materials to the New York State Next Generation ELA Learning Standards and the AASL standards, mapping each piece of content to the skills it teaches.
- Information architecture. I have designed systems for organizing school work, including a digital portfolio structure for a Portrait of a Graduate initiative and a documented set of library procedures.
Data
- Master of Data Science, University of Pittsburgh. In progress. Completed coursework includes responsible data science; mathematical and statistical foundations; and managing, querying, and preserving data. Projects include a regression model that prices collectible glass from sold listings.
- Data management and governance. I hold the CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) at the Associate level and a Foundations of Data Governance microcredential from McMaster University.
AI evaluation
- AI Content Analyst, DataAnnotation (2024 to present). I evaluate AI model outputs for accuracy and context, write feedback and prompts used to fine-tune models, and contribute domain knowledge in law, history, and philosophy.
Writing
Samples of this work are collected in my portfolio.
- Owner, Whole Legal (2023 to present). I research, write, and edit legal content for law firms and their clients, and help clients plan content strategy and search visibility.
- Contributor, Forbes Advisor (2022 to present). I write about legal issues, including personal injury and mass torts, for readers who don't know how to navigate the legal system.
- Writer and editor, injury.com (2021 to present). I write and edit articles on legal topics for a general audience.
- Author (2017 to 2022). I wrote and published short stories, novellas, and novels on Amazon, and ran my own marketing and advertising.
Libraries and teaching
- Teacher-librarian, Hermon-DeKalb Central School (2007 to present). I run the PreK-12 library and teach research and information literacy alongside classroom teachers. I have developed courses including Research Methods, Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to U.S. Politics, and Writing Workshop, and I build online courses to support in-person classes.
